Let’s see if we’re a good fit.
Do you ever find yourself saying…
I’m chronically overthinking and can’t seem to turn my brain off.
I’m doing all the things right, so why can’t I find relief?
I’m exhausted, but nothing is technically “wrong,” so why does everything feel so hard?
It feels easier to do everything myself, but I’m burning out.
I’m tired of feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions.
Slowing down makes me feel anxious and guilty.
At the end of the day, I just rarely feel good enough.
I want to stop surviving and actually start feeling present in my own life.
Then read on, my friend - you’re in the right place.
Hello! I’m Maddie.
Let me give you a window into what our work together might look like.
First off, I want you to feel safe and accepted in our sessions, because that’s when you can truly open up to exploring. And the work I want us to do in counseling is just that, exploring together - making connections, identifying patterns, developing new insights, and trying out new things!
Through counseling, I hope you learn to see yourself in a more compassionate and realistic way. I want you to see your own ability and courage, and come to value yourself as you are, not as you wish you were or as you think you should be. Additionally, I want to help you feel more connected to your body. We spend so much time in our thoughts that we forget to pay attention to all the important info coming to us through our bods - this is where the mindfulness and somatic work comes in.
Something else to note: I am very much myself in our sessions and work with me will not be all-together serious. I use colorful language, I make jokes, I talk with my hands, I laugh, and I, too, will drink coffee. Yes, I am a counselor with the skills and expertise to help you, but I am also a human being who will walk alongside you!
Finally, I hope you will walk away from our time together not only with deeper understanding and self-acceptance, but also with practical tools that will grow your life in ways that align with your identity, values, and purpose. Let’s go!
Warmly,
Maddie Moore
A few fun things about Maddie…
I’m from Omaha. I got my BA from Creighton and MS from University of Nebraska Omaha. I now teach at UNO in the Counseling Dept.
I love to travel! Hopefully my next stop will be Argentina, or maybe Nepal, or maybe Thailand….
To my bones, I am a dog person. I do have a Collie, Jimmy, who can sometimes wander into the background of our appts (if you’re lucky).
I enjoy hiking and photography and all of the nature photographs on this website are my little experiments!
I believe that one of life’s of simple pleasures is a robust salad with a side of fries. Aioli instead of ketchup, almost always.
My Identity & Yours
If you choose to work with me, you can be assured that race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, and other identities will be accepted and invited into the discussion. It is my goal to be as safe and helpful to you as I possibly can be. While I recognize there may be times when I, as a cis straight neurotypical white woman, cannot fully appreciate or understand your experience, I will do my very best to be informed, self-aware, and humble as we navigate the unique (and systemic) challenges you may face.
Therapeutic Approaches
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT is a type of therapy that helps individuals recognize and change patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to their emotional distress or difficulties. With CBT, we will identify and challenge some of your worried, critical, or negative thoughts and find new, more helpful ways of thinking.
Somatic Experiencing
I often lean on somatic approaches, especially for anxiety, trauma, and chronic pain. Somatic approaches integrate the mind and body, and utilize bodily sensations / movement to promote healing and self-awareness. Sometimes we will find ways to express and move through anger, grief, or fear, instead of solely talking about these difficult emotions.
Mindful Self-Compassion
Mindful Self-Compassion is a therapeutic practice that encourages individuals to cultivate mindfulness and kindness towards themselves, fostering greater emotional resilience and well-being. From this modality, I will often implement a good deal of mindfulness, body awareness, and meditation practice into our sessions.
The Bonus Stuff…
I tend to bring in elements of Inner Child work (or Internal Family Systems), meaning together we can explore and connect to various parts of ourselves that sometimes feel in conflict. Lastly, I have substantial training in Shame Resilience, which helps us understand, unpack, and effectively cope with shame.
Areas of Expertise
Emerging Adults (ages 20-30)
Being a young adult is hard - lotssss to figure out in these years. You are trying to sort out your identity, your values, your career aspirations, your friendships, your romantic relationships, your relationship with intimacy, on and on, and the juggling all of it! Not a bad time to seek out counseling.
Anxiety & Trauma
Anxiety can show up in a lot of different ways, and presents in our minds AND our bodies. Whether it’s daily anxiety or anxiety following a traumatic event(s), it can be overwhelming and difficult to manage. I work often with adults who have childhood trauma, specifically emotional abuse or neglect. No matter the cause, counseling can help turn the volume down on your anxiety!
Grief & Loss
Grief is not only about the death of a person, it can also be the loss of an identity, a career, the parent we wish we’d had, our health, an idea for the future, a sense of self, a romantic partner, or a friend. Grief can feel so isolating, but you are not alone in it - we all experience grief and loss, and I want to walk with you through it.
Burnout & Helping Professionals
Helpers need help too. Counseling support and personal wellbeing are often critical to our success as helping professionals. It beneficial to work with someone who understands this and seeks to help you find ways to continue caring for others while adding your own self-care into the equation.
Telehealth for NE & MN
I am able to provide telehealth services across the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, and Massachusetts! Teletherapy sessions are conducted securely and confidentially through a HIPAA-compliant platform. We will always use video, so it can feel very much like we are sitting together.
There are some obvious benefits to telehealth: being able to jump on a call at the last minute, having the flexibility to join during your work day, or just having a preference for your own blankets and pillows. Telehealth can also offer safety and familiarity while doing the hard work of therapy - this can allow for deeper therapeutic work from the comforts of home.
